Design leadership
Designing for a DBA at 2am is harder than an onboarding flow
Enterprise UX is underrated as a craft discipline.
Consumer apps get all the design press: beautiful onboarding, delightful empty states, perfect animations. But designing for a senior DBA managing 40 production clusters at 2am when something is on fire?
That's a different problem entirely.
The stakes are asymmetric. Mistakes cost real money and real careers. The user's mental model is deep and specific. The data density required would give a consumer designer a panic attack.
The best enterprise designers I know are part information architect, part systems thinker, part reliability engineer. They design for stress cases first.
That's not less interesting than consumer design. It's harder.
